Offices around Soho, Mayfair and Fitzrovia are often older buildings never designed to be offices in the first place — townhouses, mansion blocks, narrow staircases, meeting rooms that do three different jobs before lunch. Floorplates are smaller than in the City or the Wharf, so there's less space per person and less spare space generally, which means timing matters more than almost anywhere else we work.

This is client-facing territory — advertising, media, retail head offices — where the same room hosting a session at half twelve might be hosting a pitch at two. Everyone needs to look and feel presentable on short notice, which tends to favour something efficient over something indulgent: a session that leaves people clear-headed rather than one that runs long and leaves them rushing to change before a client walks in.

Lunchtime is usually the only window that works, because mornings and afternoons are eaten up by client meetings and calls. Groups tend to be smaller and the room gets turned back for its next booking within minutes of finishing, so sessions here run to time in a way that matters less in offices with more room to spare.
